Writers block...

Fri Nov 16, 2007, 7:15 AM
It's like they expect you to have a fucking plot or something...

So, the worst part about writing is writers block. It's not only frustrating, but it's a little disheartening. It's like this.. you have an idea of where you want to go but that open gap between here and there is fillable by nothing in your head.

So I write stupid journals and I chat in Swedish and I think about all the ways that I can go forward with this story but the next logical step is still missing. I don't know that I can write this non-chronologically, either.

So it appears that the quite noble and intelligent *Forsaken2544 and I shall go in together on a combo piece about Iago and Torea. I don't want to say too much, but let's just say the proto-dialogue that we talked about made me laugh pretty hard. It should be good. Sort of like a fantasy version of the odd couple.

So far 4 people have looked at my profile! I'm goddamn popular.

This thing isn't letting me insert my sig.. :(

when I get writers block, I try to open up a new character, sometimes writing about a new character solves the problem I had initially and gives me a solution to my problem. The Torea thing might work pretty well for you. Mind you it doesn't have to be another main or supporting character, just someone else to write about for a while

Yeah, well, I opened up with another character and it worked a little bit. I think I just got hit by some inspiration to write some more, actually. I'm thinking that I'll work Hendrik into this storyline, which should be interesting. Posting chapter two of The Misadventures of Iago the Mediocre Pick Pocket shortly..

You know, ~souvuelle brings up a good point. Maybe I should create a character for the odd couple crossover? (I don't want to get our readers confused)

Although, I like Torea. But, as you may have noticed, I am also liking the recent development with Devon.

So I'm still eager to try some crossoversauce with you

Maybe what you should do is stop trying so hard. Seriously. I write in drafts, almost as if typing on a typewriter and without the ability to back up and correct. I allow myself to write crap with the idea that I'll catch it the next time through and improve on it. So far it's worked fine and I haven't had writers block in years.

That's not such a bad idea. Thats in essence what I'm attempting to do here. I mean, I'm pretty new at this whole writing game. I've always thought it would "be neat" to be a writer but I've never written much at all that wasn't for a class or sociology or something. So this is all new for me.

Thanks for the advice, though. :)

I'm telling you... Devon. If not Torea, Devon.
